Detailed Information
A world-renowned region in the coffee industry, Yirgachefe hardly needs an introduction.
Some of the most coveted coffees are produced here, with floral notes, jasmine, and a tea-like character.
This lot is part of our direct-to-consumer initiative in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. Its optimal terroir and climate allow coffee trees to grow wild, developing unique, indigenous varieties that capture the richness of their origin.
Gutu's farm is located in Tulise at an altitude of 2,078 meters. He cultivates the Kurme, 74112, and Wolisho varieties on 4.5 hectares.
Tarekegn has six years of experience preparing coffee, but he has been farming since he was a child, initially helping his family. After he got married, his father gave him his own plot of land, following the Gedeo tradition in which the father provides land to a newly married son.
Now, Tarekegn relies entirely on coffee farming to support his family.
As a traditional Ethiopian producer, he carries out organic practices with a focus on environmentally sustainable practices, proof of which are weeding without the use of pesticides or the composting practice he applies to his plants.
After the coffee cherries are harvested manually, they are floated to remove those that do not have the appropriate density and are then taken to African beds where the selection of optimal fruits continues and the coffee will dry in about 20 days until it reaches the appropriate moisture level.
As a young and ambitious farmer, in 2025 he achieved his first export and is expanding his land, aspiring to sell his specialty coffee to more countries.
Extraction recipe
In a V60, add 12g of medium-coarse ground coffee and pour in 94°C water in several pulses: 50g + 50g + 100g (200g of water in total). Total extraction time ~2:00 min.
Roasting and Shipping
We roast to order, which means we don't keep roasted coffee in stock at the shop. As a matter of routine, we have three roasting days per week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (excluding public holidays). If you place your order before 8:00 a.m. on one of those days, your coffee will be roasted that same day; otherwise, it will be roasted the next day. Orders are sent to their destination the day after they are toasted (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday respectively). Please note that if your order does not contain coffee, it will be shipped the next business day after it is placed and will arrive at its destination within the following 48 hours (excluding holidays). Shipping costs are calculated during the checkout process.
