On our last trip to Guatemala, we focused on Huehuetenango, an emblematic coffee-producing region in the country, where ancestral practices are practiced by groups of producers from diverse ethnic cultures who live in the mountains. Many of these coffee farmers share their passion for coffee growing with other occupations, and their immense pride in the work they do is evident.
The reason we chose this region lies in the cup profile found there, characterized by a remarkable, balanced personality with winey, fruity textures and, above all, exceptional sweetness. However, our challenge was considerable, as we worked with small groups with unique export logistics. This led us to face bureaucratic complications in obtaining these coffees, a significant effort to collaborate with these communities and convey the value of their work.
During our trip, we collaborated with the El Sendero cooperative, which was established in 2018. We had the opportunity to visit them in 2019 and were amazed by the quality of their coffees. This year, we were able to observe the great progress they have made, as well as the tenacity with which both the producers and the cooperative team work for the well-being of their community. We purchased coffees from producers Juan Alvarado, Nery Pablo, and Josefa Pérez.
One of the most spectacular places we visited was Flor de Mayo in Río Ocho. We were welcomed with freshly made tortillas and a delicious lunch. We were also taken to meet the cooperative's top producers, who impressed us with their coffees, which stood out among the 60 samples we tasted. This experience underscores the commitment and dedication of Huehuetenango's coffee growers and the richness they bring to the world of coffee.
We roast to order, which means we don't keep roasted coffee in stock at the shop.
As a matter of routine, we have three roasting days per week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (excluding public holidays). If you place your order before 8:00 a.m. on one of those days, your coffee will be roasted that same day; otherwise, it will be roasted the next day.
Orders are sent to their destination the day after they are toasted (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday respectively).
Please note that if your order does not contain coffee, it will be shipped the next business day after it is placed and will arrive at its destination within the following 48 hours (excluding holidays).
Shipping costs are calculated during the checkout process.
