The Gatugi washing station is located in Nyeri, a renowned coffee-growing region of Kenya, specifically in the Othaya district. Operating since 1979, it is part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative, which brings together several washing stations in the region.
Both the station and the cooperative are owned by local producers, who deliver their coffee cherries there for processing. In return, they receive support in the form of agricultural inputs, technical training, and assistance in marketing their coffee.
The farms associated with the cooperative are located between 1,700 and 1,720 meters above sea level. They are small plots, around one hectare each, where the SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 varieties are mainly cultivated on volcanic soils.
The harvest is done manually, selecting only the ripe cherries. Once picked, they are delivered to Gatugi, where the team led by James Nderitu Gathua handles the processing with the utmost care and expertise.
We roast to order, which means we don't keep roasted coffee in stock at the shop.
As a matter of routine, we have three roasting days per week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (excluding public holidays). If you place your order before 8:00 a.m. on one of those days, your coffee will be roasted that same day; otherwise, it will be roasted the next day.
Orders are sent to their destination the day after they are toasted (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday respectively).
Please note that if your order does not contain coffee, it will be shipped the next business day after it is placed and will arrive at its destination within the following 48 hours (excluding holidays).
Shipping costs are calculated during the checkout process.
